More crypto policy, Brin, Auditing

Lighter side: Portrait of the new Prez.
  • Continuation of Monday's crypto policy discussion: what knowledge should be forbidden, hidden or protected? What IF, in the future:
    1. ? I have instructions on how to rig the Internet-based election system for the 2008 presidential election ?
    2. ? I have identified a back-door into some AES implementations that enable eavesdropping on secure data transmission ?
    3. ? I have discovered a way of quickly bypassing the access controls on the (new, better) encryption for online music and digital movies ?
    4. ? There is a quick and easy way to bypass standard censorware found in schools, homes and libraries everywhere ?
    5. ? Someone manages to get all the passcodes to your online banking web site ?

What's the problem with Brin's vision (p. 174): "Picture an arena where adversaries can no longer scream past each other, but must actively answer each other's accusations, criticisms, and complaints. A place where one group's vision, or model of the world, can be tested, dented by criticism, and possibly improved under the watchful gaze of an interested public."
