Advanced PDF Password Recovery: README ====================================== Contents -------- Introduction Requirements Known bugs and limitations Technical support Registration Copyright and license Where to get the latest version Introduction ------------ This program (Advanced PDF Password Recovery, or simply APDFPR) can be used to decrypt protected Adobe Acrobat PDF files, which have "owner" password set, preventing the file from editing (changing), printing, selecting text and graphics (and copying them into the Clipboard), or adding/changing annotations and form fields (in any combination). Decryption is being done instantly. Decrypted file can be opened in any PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader) without any restrictions -- i.e. with edit/copy/print/annotate functions enabled. Please note that APDFPR doesn't work with documents which have user-level passwords (preventing the files from being opened), if both user and owner passwords are unknown. Can operate in a batch mode (with parameters supplied in the command line) to process a few PDF files at once. All versions of Acrobat (including Acrobat 5.0, i.e. PDF 1.4 specification with improved security) are supported. Requirements ------------ - Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT 2000 - about 600 kilobytes of hard disk space Known bugs and limitations -------------------------- The program can process files encrypted in mode 1 with standard, FileOpen (FOPN_fLock) and BPTE_rot13 encryption handlers only. The documents protected with any other encryption handlers (like SASS_INTERNET_STDS from Standards Australia Software Services, or SoftLock's Acrobat Security Plug-Ins) cannot be decrypted. If the PDF file has a "user" password set (i.e. you have to supply the password to open the file in Adobe Acrobat Reader), APDFPR can decrypt it (removing the protection) only if you know either "user" or "owner" password. The user password itself can be recovered using brute-force and dictionary attacks only (which are time-consuming); if you're interested in such features, please look at "professional" edition of APDFPR: http://www.elcomsoft.com/apdfpr.html Technical support ----------------- For technical support, please us at support@elcomsoft.com. Registration ------------ Unregistered (trial) version decrypts only first 10% pages (but at least one page) of the documents, and replaces all other pages with blank (empty) ones. Also, it doesn't support command line interface. After you register (look at "order.txt" for details), we'll send you your personal registration code. To enter it into the program, just press the "Register" button on the main screen; the program will display the small window dialog asking you to enter the code. If the code is correct, APDFPR shows the message that it is registered now, and so since than has the full functionality. Please note that your registration will be valid for all future versions of APDFPR -- it means, that they will be free for you. Copyright and license --------------------- See "license.txt" file.
